A V choker top is a stylish garment featuring a deep V-neckline that is complemented by an attached choker-like band encircling the neck. The design merges a bold and contemporary aesthetic with elegance, drawing attention to the neckline and collarbone. It’s a versatile piece often made from fabrics like cotton, satin, or stretchy blends, suitable for both casual and dressy occasions. This top pairs well with high-waisted jeans, skirts, or tailored trousers for a chic look.

HERE'S A STEP-TO-STEP GUIDE OF MAKING A V NECK CHOKER TOP:

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

  1. Fabric (stretchy materials like jersey, knit, or cotton work well)
  2. Matching thread
  3. Sewing machine or needle (for hand sewing)
  4. Scissors
  5. Measuring tape
  6. Pins
  7. Chalk or fabric marker
  8. Paper for pattern making (optional)

STEPS:

1.DESIGN ADN MEASURE:

The Design and Measure step is crucial for creating a well-fitted and stylish V-neck choker top. This step ensures your top will fit perfectly and achieve the desired look. Here’s what it involves:

1.VISUALIZE YOUR STYLE

1. Decide on the shape and style of the top (e.g., fitted or loose, cropped or full-length).

    • Choose whether you want short sleeves, long sleeves, or a sleeveless design.
    • Plan the depth and width of the V-neckline and the size of the choker.
    • On pattern paper (or directly on fabric), draw the outlines of the top:
    • Front bodice: A V-neck shape with your desired neckline depth.
    • Back bodice: Either a straight, curved, or matching V-neckline.
    • Choker: A rectangular strip that will wrap around your neck snugly.
    •

2.CREATE OR TRACE THE PATTERN

  • Use an existing T-shirt or top pattern as a base, or create a simple pattern:
  • Front: Adjust the neckline into a V-shape.
  • Back: Keep the neckline straight or slightly curved.
  • For the choker, create a rectangular strip of fabric, approximately 2–3 inches wide and long enough to wrap around your neck plus seam allowance.

3.CUT THE FABRIC

                                                     CUT THE FABRIC

  • Cut along the marked lines, keeping the fabric flat.
  • Separate the front and back pieces after cutting.

                                               CUT THE CHOKER STRIP

  • Measure your neck circumference plus 1 inch (2.5 cm) for overlap.
  • Cut a rectangular strip of fabric about 2–3 inches wide.

                                              OPTIONAL: CUT SLEEVES

  • If you’re adding sleeves, fold the fabric and trace or draft a sleeve pattern.
  • Cut out two identical pieces.

4.SEW THE TOP BODY

  • 1. Assemble the Front and Back Pieces

Align the Shoulder Seams:

    • Place the front and back pieces right sides together.
    • Pin the shoulder edges.
    • Sew the shoulder Seams:
    • Sew using a straight or stretch stitch (if the fabric is stretchy).
    • Press the seams flat or open with an iron for a clean finish.

2. Finish the V-Neckline

  1. Stabilize the Neckline:
    • If the fabric is stretchy, add a stabilizing strip or stay-stitch along the neckline to prevent stretching.
  2. Fold or Attach Facing:
    • Fold the neckline edge inward by 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) and sew a narrow hem, or
    • Use a facing: Cut a matching strip for the neckline, sew it to the edge, and turn it inward for a clean finish.
  3. Sew the V-Neck Point:
    • Pin the V-point carefully to align both sides.
    • Sew slowly at the V to ensure sharp corners.

3. Attach the Side Seams

  1. Pin the Sides:
    • With right sides together, pin the sides of the front and back pieces from the underarm to the hem.
  2. Sew the Side Seams:
    • Sew the side seams using a straight or stretch stitch.
    • Press the seams open or to one side

ATTACH THE CHOKER

  • Fold the choker strip in half lengthwise (right sides facing) and sew along the edge to form a loop.
  • Turn it right-side out and press flat.
  • Attach the choker to the neckline by aligning the seam of the choker with the back center of the neckline. Sew the bottom edge of the choker to the top edge of the V-neckline.

7. Add Sleeves (Optional)

  • If adding sleeves, sew them into the armholes. Hem the sleeve edges for a polished look.

8.Finish the Hemline

  • Fold and sew the bottom hem and sleeve edges to complete the top.

9. Final Touches

  • Press the seams with an iron for a polished look.
  • Try on the top and adjust if necessary.
